 Behind the name of PERSONAL BEST ATHLETICS

Established in 2006, PBA is a Fall Running Club, a Summer Track & Field Club, and a year-round Personal Training opportunity for youth in the Tulsa community.

Simply put...PBA is a goal setting, character building, friend-ship making, success accomplishing, and strong growing club in Tulsa, OK.  The athletes in the club are mostly youth (1st grade - high school).  Another part of the family is college, open, and masters runners, and a very supportive group of parents.  Fall Running Club practices 2-4 times a week and competes in local races on the weekends.  Summer Track practice 2-5 times a week, and competes in track meets May - August.  Personal Training varies according to the athlete/team and their goals.

The philosophy of the club is in the name…

Personal Best - to strive for new goals, to never settle, and to compete at one’s best ability through training physically and preparing mentally to push one-self to their potential and be fully satisfied with the effort.  In other words, "Motivation must come from the belief that ultimate success lies in giving your personal best." - John Wooden

Athletics - In America we use the word Athletics in relation to all sports, well Athletics is also the international term for Track & Field.

The definition of Athletics is…

1.      The sports of running, jumping etc or competitions in these.
2.      Activities, such as sports, exercises, and games, which require physical skill and stamina.
3.      The principles or system of training and practice for such activities.

The goal of Personal Best Athletics is to help all ages and levels of people to obtain their personal goals.  This is typically in relation to a physical activity or sport, which involves training in confidence, better self-image, teaching healthy habits, and preparation mentally for performing under pressure. 

The Fall Running Club is for fall-winter training and participates in local road races, cross country meets, and some athletes attend USATF, AAU, and Footlocker meets.

The Summer Track Club trains for and competes in USATF and AAU summer track meets.  The club also trains for and competes in the Tulsa Runner Summer Track Series.

The Personal Training opportunities is for anyone seeking individual help in reaching personal goals and/or for teams that want to excel to their potential in a team bonding experience of training together.

 In the Community

In the summers PBA donates time, energy, and money toward the Tulsa Runner Summer Track Series.  PBA coaches and athletes help with the set up, split calling, and race management of the weekly track meets at TU. 

Along with donating time, PBA helped to raise enough money toward offsetting the fees that go into putting together the Summer Track Series.  PBA also helped to raise money to purchase a Stopwatch / Printer.  This timing machine allowed for all participants to receive their times for the meets and allow the meet to run smoother.  Philip West at Tulsa Runner, director of the Summer Track Series, also uses the times to post the results on-line...check out Tulsa Runner Summer Track Series.

At the end of the Summer PBA volunteers with the Riverside 5000, which was named the Oklahoma 5k State Championships.  PBA Club members help set up prior to the race, and are split callers during the elite race.
