Coach Hudgens bio and insights on Luke Murphy...
"I have seen Luke's well developed character and intellect that goes far and beyond anything I could hope for a student-athlete. Particularly unique to Luke is his capacity to pursue personal excellence while intentionally supporting and sometimes sacrificing for others along the way. Specific characteristics are Luke’s enthusiastic energy for academics, his capacity for success in life, and his unselfish contribution to the communities he’s involved in.
Luke takes on every challenge with the best of his ability. His respect for leadership and discipline in following procedures makes for a trustworthy student and person of excellent character. He is a team player and has a unique ability to collaborate with a wide dynamic of peers. His work ethic developed through his experiences in running and the array of communities he volunteers for has consistently progressed; he is willing to push himself physically toward his personal athletic goals while balancing an honors academic load of excellent standards.
As a student-athlete, Luke has excelled at Lincoln Christian School (LCS), an institution with high standards of commitment and whole person excellence. Luke has maturity beyond his years and a strong discipline in setting his priorities. Academics and character are among Luke’s top priority. Luke is ranked 1st in his class of 60 students and has earned a 32 on the ACT. He has received several Academic Honors on national scale such as National Merit Quarterfinalist (2017), National Hispanic Recognition Program Finalist (2017), and LCS Academic Honors such as Pre-Ap Chemistry Certificate for Outstanding Excellence (2016), World History Certificate for Outstanding Excellence (2016), and multiple AP Scholar Awards.
His leadership qualities are most impressive serving in a variety of ways at one of the largest churches in the state, Church on the Move. Luke leads at “Kids on the Move”, volunteers with “Oneighty Missions”, and serves with “Love Your Neighbor Outreaches”. At Lincoln Christian School (LCS), Luke has been a member of Student Council and National Honors Society. What is exceptional about Luke is that he did all this while training and competing on the State Championship LCS Cross-Country Team and LCS Track & Field team. More than just competing, Luke has been named Outstanding LCS Cross-Country Runner each year, and MVP LCS Track & Field Distance Runner each year. He is a multiple State Champion qualifier throughout his high school career, and has placed top in the state of Oklahoma, earning All-State Honors over ten times."
