Coach Hudgens bio and insights on Scout Snodgrass...
Scout Snodgrass in one word is "energy". Her set point of energy and enthusiasm sets her apart and her presence establishes a standard that lifts the culture around her. Scout’s presence is full of contagious and consistent good vibes. Smiling is Scout’s first response to anyone she encounters. Like mirror neurons only she is the mirror that moves others to a see and be in a more joyful state of being. Even in the midst of the highest pressure filled circumstances, Scout starts with a smile and then before toeing line she locks into a focused “eye on the prize” composure and strives toward her personal best. This is true to her character in the hot and humid dog-days of summer in Kingfisher, OK as it is on the cold rainy days in Eugene, OR.
This exceptional quality Scout has is something as a coach I hope to instill, but for Scout I can say she already has it established… Scout is a thermostat, not a thermometer, and no matter what the thermometer says, her habit is to get into the optimal ready state regardless of the conditions or circumstance. This is true to her character from small one-on-one practice setting as it is at a championship race full of fans, and everything in between. Whatever team she is on, is a better team because she is on it.
In relation to her physical gifts, Scout has an exceptional anaerobic capacity. She has great power and explosiveness for an 800m runner along with a great band-width of stamina and energy. Her Stride is powerful and smooth, like poetry in motion, she can flow around the track. As for future events, it would be interesting to see her try the long hurdles, and possibly stretch out to the 1500m/Mile.
In relation to her passions and sense of purpose in sport, it’s a Real Joy getting to conversate about how she is growing as a whole person throughout her sports journey. Her faith, her mindset, her social capital, and most of all her joy for running are all trending up as she explores and experiences the sport of track and field more and more. Scout is from a small town and it’s important to consistently grow through small steps that equip her for the large leaps she’ll take in college. Getting to know her family and witnessing her support system, she is embracing and intentionally engaging in the daily steps it will take to become a huge asset for a college program.
